How to Beat End-of-Year Burnout
As the year winds down, the pressure ramps up. From endless to-do lists to holiday prep, it’s no wonder so many of us feel drained. But burnout isn’t inevitable—you can take steps to recharge and approach this busy season with calm and confidence.
Here are 5 practical tips (and how to implement them!) to beat end-of-year burnout:
1: Prioritize Your Time
How to: At the start of each day, write down your tasks and mark the top 1-3 priorities that truly matter. Tackle these first when your energy is at its peak. Anything else can be delegated, scheduled for later, or let go entirely.
2: Move Your Body
How to: Choose a simple activity like walking, stretching, or even a short online workout video. Schedule it into your day, such as a 10-minute walk during your lunch break or gentle yoga before bed. Consistency, even in small amounts, makes a difference.
3: Practice Gratitude
How to: At the end of each day, write down 3 things you’re grateful for—big or small. Stuck for ideas? Think of a kind gesture someone made, a moment of peace, or something you’re looking forward to. Keep a journal to track your daily gratitude habit.
4: Set Boundaries
How to: Before saying yes to any new task or responsibility, pause and ask yourself, “Do I have the capacity for this?” If not, politely decline with phrases like, “I’d love to, but I’m at capacity right now.” Remember, “no” is a complete sentence.
5: Prioritize Self-Care
How to: Find one small activity that makes you feel good, like enjoying your morning coffee without distractions or taking a 5-minute breathing break. Schedule this into your day as a non-negotiable appointment with yourself.
